Democrats' insistence on a bad immigration policy is cause of shutdown

NY Times:

The President Finds Himself Mired in a Familiar Crisis

  • Immigration policy, the issue that propelled President Trump’s political rise, snarled negotiations to avert a government shutdown.
  • Mr. Trump cast blame on Democrats, accusing them of playing “shutdown politics” on the anniversary of his inauguration.
If this were just about DACA the Democrats could have had a deal despite the fact that many in this country also oppose that too.  It was their insistence on adding chain migration to DACA and keeping protected status for many that caused the deal to be rejected.

They were warned that that aspect of their proposal was unacceptable and tried to push it anyway and then did their typical "He's a racist" dance when their proposal was rejected.  It was a bad faith negotiation ploy that deserved to be rebuked.

The Democrats are trying to whole the country hostage to their bad immigration policies which are not germane to the budget.  They own this shutdown and should be punished in the voting booth for it.  They do not oppose anything in the current proposal, they just want to push their bad policies to try import more Democrat voters to replace their shrinking base.

There could be another unstated factor the Democrats are counting on.  The tax cuts are supposed to take effect in January and the shutdown effects most of the IRS and could delay the good news for workers in their paychecks.  The sooner people realize the Democrats lied to them about the effect of the cuts the sooner they will start turning on the Democrats.
