Dallas makes the cut on new Amazon headquarters
Washington Post:
Austin also made the list. I think its traffic congestion and its weird cit officials make it a dark horse in this race.
Amazon includes D.C., Los Angeles and Dallas on list of 20 finalists for second headquartersDallas is a major transportation hub in the middle of the country meaning executives would not have to travel from one coast to the other for business meetings and it is not as likely to be snowed in as northern climes. Amazon is already expanding its distribution efforts in the area adding a third center just north of the Dallas-Fort Worth airport and hiring 2,500 new employees to staff it. The cost of living for those living there is substantially lower than it would be in LA or DC, and the State of Texas has no corporate income tax which means the cost of operations would be lower.
The online retail giant released a list of regions in the United States and Canada that it is considering for its second headquarters that could support as many as 50,000 future employees. The list includes major metropolitan areas as well as a slew of smaller communities.
