Shell gets first deep water permit in new area

The federal government today granted Shell the first permit to drill a new deep-water exploration well proposed since last year’s Gulf spill, marking a major milestone for the oil and gas industry and offshore regulators.

Under the move, Shell Oil Co. will be allowed to drill the first of three deep-water wells in the Gulf of Mexico about 250 miles southeast of Houston that were outlined in the company’s just-approved offshore exploration plan.

Environmentalists are poised to challenge the government’s approval of both the exploration plan and the drilling permit issued today, setting up a legal battle that could determine not just whether Shell’s project can go forward, but whether federal regulators can move swiftly to green light others like it.

The anti energy left is still determined to make it unprofitable to drill for oil and gas. What is needed is a way to sanction these people who bring frivolous lawsuits to thwart our ability to get the energy we need. These people really have no viable alternative energy. They need to have their light switches taped into the off position and their computers and copiers unplugged so that all of their filings would have to be done in long hand. Of course carbon paper would be out of the question too, so copies would also have to be reproduced in longhand.

I am not sure how they could write if pencils and ink made from hydrocarbons was also banned from their use.

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare

Conn Carroll: A new survey of 368 midsize to large companies found that 29% of them are considering terminating their active employee health care plans when Obamacare is full implemented in 2014. Only 71% of employers surveyed said they did not expect to drop their health coverage, while 20% said they did not know and 9% said they were planning to exit. The latest survey, conducted by Towers Watson, echoes an ealier survey by McKinsey & Co. finding that 30% of private-sector employers were planning to drop their employee health insurance coverage by 2014.
