Soccer corruption in Vietnam

Two more members of Vietnam's national football team have been arrested for match-fixing during the South East Asian Games in Manila this month.

Midfielder Huynh Quoc Anh and defender Le Bat Hieu were taken into custody on Wednesday, according to officials.

It followed the arrests last week of striker Pham Van Quyen and mid-fielder Le Quoc Vuong.

The arrests are the latest in a series of bribery and gambling scandals to hit Vietnamese football.

The latest scandal revolves around a semi-final match with Burma, which Vietnam won 1-0.

According to state-controlled newspapers, some of the players were paid 20 million dong (US$1,300) by local bookmakers to make sure Vietnam did not win by more than one goal.

The bookmakers were able to offer attractive odds on various bigger winning margins, and profit from a guaranteed result.

I thought communism was suppose to take away the incentive for corruption. Why should soccer players make more than garbage collectors in a communist society? Perhaps it is just a reflection of the reality of a command economy.

29 % of companies say they are unlikely to keep insurance after Obamacare

Conn Carroll: A new survey of 368 midsize to large companies found that 29% of them are considering terminating their active employee health care plans when Obamacare is full implemented in 2014. Only 71% of employers surveyed said they did not expect to drop their health coverage, while 20% said they did not know and 9% said they were planning to exit. The latest survey, conducted by Towers Watson, echoes an ealier survey by McKinsey & Co. finding that 30% of private-sector employers were planning to drop their employee health insurance coverage by 2014.
