Mogudishu syndrome adopted by Kerry campaign in Iraq

FrontPage:

Even for those of us who were skeptical all along about the Iraq invasion -- and I can provide witnesses that I was always a skeptic -- now that we're in, we MUST win. Why? Osama bin Laden himself has explained that he calculated that America was a "weak horse" when we cut and ran in the wake of the "Black Hawk Down" debacle. Bin Laden and other Islamofascists believe -- not without reason, given our history since Vietnam -- that Americans are too soft and weak willed to sustain any military action if it results in substantial casualties.

Thus President Bush's "bring it on" taunt to Iraqi terrorists is revealed as more than macho bluster. Fanatics from around the Islamic world now travel to Iraq to attack our troops. This has two overlooked benefits: It distracts the fanatics from plotting further attacks on U.S. civilians stateside, and it also allows America to demonstrate our ability to overcome the Mogadishu Syndrome and maintain our resolve despite the grisly toll of roadside bombs and suicide attacks.

Eventually, it may be hoped, even the most devout Islamic fanatics will get the message that their attacks only serve to strengthen American resolve. And it may be discovered that the Islamic world -- contrary to the opinion of some Western fearmongers -- does not contain an inexhaustible supply of young fools willing to blow themselves to smithereens in exchange for the promised pleasures of Paradise.
