Burkett's latest story internally inconsistent

Slant Point:

Pet Bush-basher Burkett is finally biting the hand that fed him. And his masters number two.

During a single phone conversation with Lockhart, Burkett said he suggested a "couple of concepts on what I thought (Kerry) had to do" to beat Bush. In return, he said, Lockhart tried to "convince me as to why I should give them the documents."

Now of course, Burkett is a confessed liar, so that will be the DNC's first defense. But before they need to, I'll show you he already is... again.

He [Burkett] said, however, that during the meeting in which he gave the memos to CBS, he was also told by a producer that his phone number would be passed on to Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart.

Of course, if Mapes told Lockhart that his call would help CBS get documents for a hit job on Bush and he did not know they already had them, he might have attempted to persuade Burkett to turn over the docs. By most accounts the Lockhart call was CBS's payment for Burkett delivering the documents.
